The theme of my articles for the last several weeks has been the overwhelmingly negative effect that paper money has had on our economy over the last 100 years. It has been the mechanism used to accumulate debt on the shoulders of the American people. If the money were backed by gold or silver or some other tangible thing, then the ability to make debt seem like a harmless thing is greatly reduced. Imagine a scenario in which all government expenses were paid in gold/silver and each taxpayer had to send to the tax-collector their share of the bill
