Health Care Savings Accounts The Wisconsin Legislature is considering companion bills, SB 425 and AB 639, which would create a state tax credit for health savings accounts. Wisconsin is one of four states which still taxes health savings accounts. Under the bill, employees may have an income up to $54, 150 for an individual and $110, 250 for a family of four and still claim the credit.
A bill without such income limits would be ideal, but such legislation is not being considered in the Wisconsin legislature. It is feared that without those income limits the state would lose too much tax revenue. Something is fundamentally wrong when a way is found to help contain health care costs and a large segment of the population is excluded for fear of reduced tax revenue. It shows they are not serious about health care reform.
