Why Is Preventive Maintenance Important For My Vehicle?

Imagine this scenario: You haven't changed your oil in a while because you didn't think you could afford it. Your car just dies one day so you get it towed to your mechanic. After inspecting your vehicle, he or she determines that it ran out of oil and the engine has seized. Your only options are to replace your engine or replace your car.
How about this scenario: You took your car to a quick lube for a cheap, last minute oil change. They sold you on a synthetic oil change with the idea you can go 10,000 miles between oil changes. Sometime later you hear a clunk in your front end and bring your vehicle to your regular mechanic. Unfortunately it has been so long since you've been in that your clunk is no minor fix but will consist of $1500 in major "reconstructive surgery" so-to-speak. Not only that but your 10,000 mile oil change didn't hold up so well; the oil is low and black.
