How Much Power Should Madison Have Over Local Gov't

            In my last article ("A Mayor's Dilemma") I wrote about the conflict between small local governments and the State and Federal requirements imposed upon them.  There are many examples of how Madison and Washington force cities and counties to do what government was not instituted by God to do.  Local governments are often the ones that manage and distribute welfare.  Many building regulations are mandated by the State.  Counties are forced to provide civil unions to homosexuals by Madison.  Other examples can be given.

            The U.S. Constitution limits the powers of the Federal Government.  The ninth and tenth amendments clarify and summarize the basic tenets of federalism forbidding the Federal government from adding new powers and stating that all other powers are given to the people and to the states.
