Letter to the Editor - Government's Overspending, Taxation and Intrusion

Written By: Sondra Maanum  |  Posted: Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

I believe that less government is better than a more intrusive government. I also believe that elected officials should be more fiscally responsible, reward entrepreneurs and business, worry less on who should pay more taxes, and concentrate on cutting wasteful spending and entitlement programs that do nothing to lift people out of poverty, but only make them more dependent upon government.

I listen to Democrats that want to raise taxes on the top 1 percent of Americans, who already pay over 50 percent of all income taxes. In the next breath, they berate these same entrepreneurs for not spending their money to create new business and jobs. You can not have it both ways. Either you tax them more and give their money to those that have already lost their jobs (or those who have no desire to have one), or you allow them to use their money to create business and jobs. The latter will have a greater impact and sustain our nation while the former will drain the revenue makers in our country dry. We have all heard the phrase "you can not get blood out of a turnip". Continue to raise taxes on people and they will lose their incentive to invest in America, take risk and create jobs. Can we all be on the government role, be teachers, policemen, firefighters, census workers, IRS workers, work for the county and city governments across our state and nation? The answer is NO.
