Life on the Family Farm - "The Raiders"

The raiders sneak in at night under the cover of darkness to do their stealing. They work quietly and quickly, doing their work, which they greatly enjoy. They seek to do a very thorough job. It doesn't pay to call the police because, No. 1 they won't catch them, and No. 2 if they did catch them, they wouldn't arrest them. Who are these thieves and what are they stealing, you ask? They are varmints raiding people's sweetcorn patches around the country.
One of the patches they seek to raid is the one we plant on our farm. Now I know why they like to raid it. Nothing beats fresh sweetcorn. Fresh ears of sweetcorn roasted with plenty of butter and a little salt on them are absolutely delicious. When it's in season, Joanne, Catherine, and Joshua usually eat two big ears each for dinner every day, while I have three. It is just so good!
