Sometimes family members gravitate toward generational careers and others go in opposite directions. With the Oliver family, careers in insurance resonates. Marc Oliver, owner of Oliver Insurance Agency, Inc., and his sister, co-owner Cathy Corbeil, were on an extended vacation when I requested the interview.

I met with the other two agents in the office, Melissa Wasieleski, daughter of Cathy, and Stephanie McIntire, daughter of Marc. They relayed a bit of history and shared that Marc's dad, Jim Oliver, and Marc's brother, "Uncle Lindy" as he was lovingly called, started an agency in Rice Lake in the 70's. Jim Oliver worked for Sentry Insurance, which has been in business since 1904. Marc also began his insurance career with Sentry as an agent. He considered Sentry an excellent organization to work for; however, their coverage included only one product for consumers. Marc left Sentry and in 1991 opened this agency so that he could contract with other companies as an independent agent, offering clients broader choices to fit their needs.
