Local Writer Experiences New York

The drive took 23 hours and my family and I were exhausted when we reached our destination. I couldn't stop grinning when the minivan came to a slow stop. "We're here," announced my stepdad. I was ecstatic. This moment was exactly what I had been dreaming about for the past few years and it was the culmination of hard work and sleepless hours. I swiftly exited the minivan, stretched my legs onto the coarse pavement, raised my hands and yelled "I made it! I am in New Yo-cough." After almost a decade of living in Eau Claire I forgot about pollution, an omnipresent side effect of New York City, my new home.
Nostrils filled with the putrid mixture of gasoline, urine and garbage I was still excited to be in New York City. After all, this was what I had been working toward. I spent slave hours on my college application for Manhattan private school, Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, even submitting an additional portfolio with my application to solidify acceptance. My hard work paid off and I was accepted for the spring semester.
