Cooking Corner - Morel Mushrooms

Sadly, I was unable to locate any morel mushrooms between the last article's printing and now. I did go hunting once, but after further research and discussion with my neighbor, Karla Meye r, a long-time experienced morel hunter, the season has not yet begun. Finding a vast amount of information and becoming overwhelmed with the subject, I decided to interview Karla and will share mushroom hunting largely from her perspective.
Karla learned how to hunt, identify, gather, prepare, cook, and eat mushrooms at a young ten years of age. She had the opportunity to travel with classmates to the Environmental Site in Dunn County from fourth to sixth grade for a class trip weekend. She recalls being taught by a knowledgeable expert in mushroom hunting and has been doing it ever since, especially on her father's 250 acre farm. Although store bought mushrooms never appealed to Karla, her first impression of the taste of morels was positive and completely different, and she's loved them since.
