EC County Board to Open Meeting with Moment of Reflection

Written By: ECJ Staff  |  Posted: Saturday, May 7th, 2011

From now on, the Board of Supervisors for Eau Claire County will open their meetings with an honoring of the flag and a "Moment of Reflection" instead of a prayer as in the past.  This decision was made after the Madison-based Freedom From Religion organization asked them to consider those in the county who deny God.  They considered the invoking of God's name before the meetings as imposing religion.  The board considered replacing the invocation with a recitation of the county's mission statement but amended the bill to include the moment of silence instead.
