Federal Court Forces Wisconsin to Fund Sex-changes

            Due to public outrage to a prisoner who demanded that the State of Wisconsin pay for his sex-change operation, the Inmate Sex Change Prevention Act was passed in 2006.  The law forbade any surgeries to facilitate the immorality and also banned any hormonal treatments.  Wisconsin is the only state with such a law and because of a recent Federal Court ruling, it may be the last one.

            Shortly after the law was passed, three male inmates sued the State of Wisconsin after prison officials started reducing the amount of hormonal treatments due to the law.  The three argued that because the drugs were medically necessary to keep them like women, the State violated the Federal Constitution's ban of cruel and unusual punishment as found in the eighth amendment.
