Immigration - a Christian View - Part Two -

Should a Christian hire an illegal immigrant? In my last article, I ended with God's command to help the immigrant physically, which would include giving him work if you have the means; "thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God", (Ex. 22:21). But what about an immigrant who failed to enter this country legally? And what about the fact that it is illegal to hire an illegal immigrant?
The Bible makes it clear, "Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the Lord your God", (Lev. 24:22). There were exceptions to this. The immigrants didn't have to follow the dietary laws. They didn't have to participate in the ceremonial activities (though they had to follow the Sabbath). Immigrants who were slaves didn't enjoy the privilege of emancipation every seventh year.
