A Tribute to a Public Servant

                Roger "Jody" Hahn has been described as talkative, witty, wise, friendly, an advocate for justice, having a good sense of humor, a family man, and a lover of his pets and animals. All of these statements are true, and certainly more could be said about Jody, but his passion was to serve his constituents. The door of his home was always open and you would always feel welcome to engage in any conversation, whether it involved issues before the county board, or the city of Augusta, or just small talk, or matters of faith and family, or the latest news story. You only had to know Jody for a few minutes to feel like he was your friend, and you his.

                I live in the district Jody served on the county board. I first met him when I was awarded a contract to do some work for the city of Augusta while he was the mayor. Over time I met his entire family. He made me feel like part of the family. Soon I found myself joining the family's "morning coffee" at his mom's house about once a month. I will always cherish visiting with him and his family over several cups of coffee and a cookie or two around his mom's kitchen table. I think we spent more time laughing than we did talking. The family is continuing their "morning coffee at Mom's." I'm invited for coffee as usual, but a space will be empty at the head of the table where Jody sat.
