Jackson County Gun Owners Go to Battle With County Board

As this issue of The Eau Claire Journal goes to print, the gunwners and other citizens which cherish their Second Amendment rights are assembling at the Jackson County Court House to protest the expected actions the Jackson County Board Chairman, Dennis Eberhardt, will attempt to persuade the County Board to take which will by-pass the decision of Jackson County District Attorney Gerald Fox to not prosecute some gun law violations. DA Fox's decision is the result of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in McDonald v. City of Chicago which held that the Second Amendment restrains the governments ability to limit the Citizens right to keep and bear arms. Fox stated the decision means several state laws violate that right, including those that prohibit carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm in a public building or bar and having an uncased or loaded firearm in a vehicle. He said he will no longer prosecute those violations.

County Board Chairman, Dennis Eberhardt and 1st Vice Chair of the Executive and Finance Committee, Jeff Amo, are among those on the County Board that disagree with DA Fox's decision, along with County Corporation Counsel, Mark Skolos. Skolos told the Jackson County Chronicle, "Our office will continue to prosecute violations of ordinances for Jackson County regarding the possession of firearms in public places and so on."
