Last week the Wisconsin Supreme Court overruled Dane County Judge Maryann Sumi's May ruling that blocked the implementation of the controversial Collective Bargaining bill. The bill, which takes away most of state and local government union member workers' privileges except for wage increases under the rate of inflation, was blocked under complaints that a State Senate committee meeting that reworked the bill violated legislative open meetings laws.
The question before the justices was whether there was sufficient public notice given of the meeting and whether the committee organizers obeyed Article IV, Section 9 of the Wisconsin Constitution requiring the doors of the chambers to be open when meeting.
