The following is part of a series of messages by Reuben A. Torrey. He is well qualified to speak on the subject. Torrey was well known nationally and beyond during his life time. He was raised in orthodox Christianity, but while attending the German Universities in his 20's, he became so disillusioned, he attempted to commit suicide. Instead of taking his life, he laid down the razor, and told the Lord he would from that day forward take God at His Word. Later he found out his mother that very night and hour, although across the ocean, was burdened to pray for her son that God would preserve him. The years following he became famous in his day throughout the world as an Evangelist and Bible School Superintendent and Teacher. He had a rare combination of knowledge coupled with simplicity in his speaking and writing. Countless people came to Christ under his preaching.
