Bar H Implement: Four Generation Later

The shop was busy last week. "Gotta make hay while the sun's still shining" seemed to be the motto as farmers made their way into Bar H implement in Stone Lake, Wisconsin. After a month of rain, this last week
was an excellent opportunity to cut, rake, and bail hay. As it usually happens, a tractor breaks down or a part needs to be replaced, and off to Bar H they go. Bar H implement is a family owned business and
has been serving northwest Wisconsin for 47 years. Four generations have worked at the shop since Harvey
Hendricks Sr. and his son Harvey Jr. started selling Allis/Chalmers tractors and equipment on their rural
farm three miles south of Stone Lake on County Highway BB. Both Harveys have passed away and Harvey Jr.'s wife Phyllis has since retired, though she continues to work for her two children, Roy Hendricks and Nancy Slayton, who now own the implement.

In spite of Friday's busyness, Roy's son, Dan, who works for the parts department, managed to find time to repair the carburetor of my weed whacker. Along with tractor sales and repair, Bar H sells a full line of lawn mowers and equipment. In the 1940's, Harvey Hendricks Sr. and his son moved from Indiana to the village of Stone Lake and purchased the property surrounding the east shore of
Slim Lake. They milked cows on their farm and sold barn cleaners and silos to local farmers. Because of a demand from local farmers for farm machinery, the Hendricks' started selling tractors in their yard,
converting their garage into a machine shop. Since then the Hendricks' have been active in their community. Harvey Sr., who became born again while in Indiana, was a member and a cheerful contributor to the Stone Lake Wesleyan Church. Harvey Jr. was a member of the local Lion's Club, and Roy is a volunteer firefighter.
