"It is many years since I was first confronted with the problem of bringing the outsider to the house of God. I was inexperienced, and having no idea of the magnitude and complexity of the task, not destitute of confidence in my own resources. My sermons were prepared with the utmost care, and my energies were given without stint to every form of religious and social activity.
