Possibly the world's most extreme investment mania made history in 17th century Holland; people went berserk over tulips. At its peak in 1637, some investors paid 10 years wages for one tulip. You know what happened next; the bubble popped and investors lost big. Some professionals think that treasuries are a type of 21st century tulip mania.
