Eau Claire County Board Considers Banning Prayer

Written By: Dan Stanley  |  Posted: Friday, April 29th, 2011

Due to a letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation, written February 11, 2011, the Eau Claire County Board is considering banning the long standing practice of an opening prayer that follows the pledge of allegiance. The attempt by this organization as well as others around the country to remove God and prayer from government is not new, but certainly has been successful in many respects.

The County Board's committee is considering three options in response to this issue: (1)" eliminating the practice of giving invocations entirely" (2) "retaining an invocation prior to the county board meeting by adopting legislation that would implement a policy that would stand up to a constitutional challenge" or (3)"the substitution a different agenda item such as the Eau Claire County Mission Statement."
