Should the Federal Government Help Pay for Our Airport?

Much has been said concerning the Federal budget deficit. Fiscal hawks cha mpion bold cuts to "discretionary" spending. But many of these conservatives come home to find out that what may be viewed as discretionary nationwide, may not be viewed so in their local districts.
Consider the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport. United Express currently provides air service to Western Wisconsin. But Republicans in the House of Representatives have voted to eventually eliminate the Essential Air Service Program that gives the regional airline assistance in providing flights to airports like ours. The loss of this means the probable loss of air service to Chicago or the Twin Cities.
