The votes are in and the results are official. The majority voted to borrow several million dollars to make the school buildings better. In Eau Claire, the major issue at the polls was the referendum asking voters if the school district should borrow almost $52 million to rebuild, repair, or expand various school buildings. Around 55% voted for the loan.
There were also two candidates for the two open seats on the school board and a write-in candidate. Dave Westrate entered late into the race hoping that enough voters would be motivated by his promise to lower the school tax levy and write in his name. He received almost 5,000 votes, but the other two candidates received over 13,000 votes each, leaving him the only loser in the race. The two winners, though advocating that efficiencies are needed , both pushed for a strong school system without any cuts in the budget. - ECJ
