Japan's Tsunami: a Sober Reflection

                Once again, within short time it seems, the headlines are filled with another account of an almost incomprehensible disaster.  Who has not seen the pictures of the landscape of several Japanese villages, towns and cities leveled in the trail of a tsunami from a record 8.9 magnitude earthquake. They are breath taking, mingled with sorrow and a sense of awe.  From Katrina to Haiti to Japan we have been regular observers or participants in cataclysmic events of apocalyptic proportions.

                My first response after the initial shock, as my thoughts were directed towards the Japanese people (and foreigners) who were experiencing this calamity, was to pray.  My prayers went up first for those in that country who are Christians, then for the nation in general.  Just as you would be first concerned about your own family, then others, so I for Christians, then others.  My prayer was for protection for those still in imminent danger as well as the needs of each being met.
