Bastiat's "Chinese Story"

                The following is an excerpt from Frederic Bastiat, who was famous for understanding liberty.  He understood how the government was prone to interfere with true liberty and how it would often make life harder for the citizenry in the name of making it better.  He illustrates this with a Chinese story. - USJ Editor

                There were in China two large towns, called Tchin and Tchan. A magnificent canal united them. The emperor thought fit to order enormous blocks of stone to be thrown into it for the purpose of rendering it useless.
