Many Surprises at the Farmers Market

Eau Claire's Downtown Farmers Market at Phoenix Park has been running for over three mo nths and the farmers' produce selection and abundance is phenomenal right now. Walking through the spacious open-air market beneath the u-shaped pavilion at Phoenix Park makes grocery shopping a completely different experience. Vendors looking to sell various produce and products line each side of the pavilion with their tables piled high with their beautiful, high-quality goods. Many people come to purchase the fresh harvest, or to just enjoy the unique experience.
The market begins in May when they are open only on Saturdays until the garden production really starts up in June. From June first on until October twenty-ninth (this year) they are open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Wednesday and Saturday's times are 7:30 am to 1:00 pm and Thursday's time runs from 12:00 noon to 5:00 pm. Saturdays boast of the most activity, additional vendors, and artisan booths. Live music and art are each a part of the excitement and activity. Wednesdays and Thursdays are still relatively busy, and they're a little lower key for those wanting to avoid the hustle and hubbub of a larger crowd. Sometimes I've found that towards the end of the day some of the vendors are more willing to bargain so they have less to take home. The downside to this it that the produce is obviously not as fresh, and is somewhat picked over. As a general guideline, go for enjoyment, a good experience, and a greater variety of products and entertainment on Saturday; go for a quick stop to pick up that something you need for dinner or the bouquet of flowers for your sweetheart on Wednesday or Thursday.
