Are We Truly a Compassionate People?

                 Many recall G. W. Bush initiating what he called "compassionate conservatism."  It was an attempt to balance the Republican emphasis on a strong military with a concern for the needy and the poor.

                There was no question the Democrats had taken the "high road" in this regard.  They are known about speaking about compassion and a "safety net" that no one falls through.  Lyndon Johnson's Great Society attempt became the hallmark of this movement initiated by the Democrat Party.
