Life on the Family Farm Under an Open Heaven - The Tractor Joanne Bought

Written By: By Tom Heck  |  Posted: Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Years ago, when we started farming here, I bought an old 1206 Farmall tractor on an auction over in Minnesota. It's been my big tractor on this farm here for many years. Built in 1966 by International Harvester, it was one of the best tractors ever produced. Up until a few years ago, I did all my plowing and chopping with it.

I used it a lot, but with age, it started to have a number of break downs. Though not major, they would stop me from using him until I got it fixed. When a farmer has crops to get in, he can't be waiting around for parts to fix his tractor. I did not have another big tractor as a back-up. I was blessed though, to have a couple of very good neighbors that lent me one of their big tractors on a couple different occasions when I desperately needed one. We thank the Lord for good neighbors.
