Tell Madison, 'Leave Our Road Money Alone'

The Eau Claire County Board of Supervisors recently voted to place on the November ballot an advisory referendum asking the voters if the Wisconsin state government should stop taping into the transportation fund in order to pay for other state services. It reads "Should the Wisconsin Constitution be amended to prohibit any further transfers or lapses from the segregated transportation fund?"
The Transportation fund, funded largely by our gas taxes and DMV fees, is assumed by most people to remain untouched except for building and repairing our transportation infrastructure. Yet for the last ten years the government in Madison has taken $1.2 billion from the fund and replaced it with $800 million of debt. This leaves about $400 million missing for the maintenance of our roads.
