Proof that the Bible is God's Word

Written By: R.A Torrey  |  Posted: Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

The following is part seven of articles written by Rueban A. Torrey. He is well qualified to speak on the subject. Whatever your persuasions may be, if you are interested in knowing whether the Bible is God's Word or not, read the following series. We are convinced it will help you.

In the seventh place, I believe the Bible to be the Word of God because of the Character Of Those Who Accept It as the Word of God, and because of the character of those who reject it as not being the Word of God. Two things speak for the Bible and its divine origin. First, the character of those who accept it as being the Word of God, and second, the character of those who reject it as not being the Word of God. Sometimes when I meet a man or woman who says with a quiet confidence, "I believe the Bible to be the Word of God, " and when I look at the purity, and probity, and integrity, and uprightness, and self-sacrifice, of their life, how near they are living to God, I feel like saying, "I am glad to hear you say that you believe the Bible to be the Word of God. The fact that a man who lives so near God as you do, and knows God so well, thinks the Bible to be the Word of God, is a confirmation of my own faith that it really is." But when I meet another man of an entirely different type who says to me with a jaunty toss of his head, "I do not believe the Bible to be the Word of God, " and then I look at the selfishness, and sordidness, and oftentimes the utter sensuality of his life, how far he is living from God, I feel like saying, "Well, sir, I am glad to hear you say that you do not believe the Bible to be the Word of God. The fact that a man who lives so far from God as you do, and knows so little about God, doubts that the Bible is the Word of God, is a confirmation of my own faith that it really is the Word of God." Now do not misunderstand me.
