Retrospect on the 2010 Winter Olympics

Another Winter Olympics is past, and, as usual, was filled with excitement, surprises, and disappointments. Winter and summer Olympics are held every four years, the two divisions staggered by two years. This year's 86 events were held in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Before the competition began it was marred by the tragic death of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, only 21 years old. The games have also been fraught with weather and logistic problems that have frustrated the hosts.

Though the Olympics is a world news event, the Journal normally does not report on sports.
