Thank God For Freedom of Religion in America

Written By: Dan Stanley  |  Posted: Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

When Scotsman William Wallace, soon to be executed, shouted "freedom" from the executioner's block, he vividly illustrated what sums up America. We are the "land of the free and the home of the brave." Freedom of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness has been and still is the cry and lure of America. Freedom of the press, freedom of speech and freedom of religion are the cornerstone of this freedom upon which this nation survives and thrives. Further, we have Constitution written to respect these freedoms. Lady Liberty stands on our shores as a monument to freedom beckoning the poor and oppressed to come and partake of the blessing of living in a country that offers freedom to all.

It is true that this freedom has been and is even presently being assaulted by some. In the name of "hate speech" we are in danger of shutting down freedom of speech. Some are even equating Christianity with terrorism at times. What an awful and twisted attempt this is! What Christianity , the Bible and the Gospel have given to America is beyond words. It has, in my opinion, been the main source, if not the source of the very freedoms we enjoy. George Washington, in his famous Farewell
Address, specifically spoke of the necessity of religion and morality for our nation to maintain the very freedoms we have. The history of freedom in America is an example and testimony to this. But my larger point is the freedom we have to practice our religious beliefs in America. I thank God, especially in regards to religious freedom, that we still have freedom of religion in America.
