Modern Day Jamaica: Life After Dudus - Part Two -

            My assignment in Tivoli Gardens was a part of the photo internship I got at a nonprofit human rights organization, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ). My job was to take pictures of the many educational workshops and seminars they held in inner city communities. JFJ human rights lawyers and a JFJ representative went to Tivoli Gardens to educate community residents of the rights they gained through a newly passed charter. One of the topics of the seminar was proper protocol in police interaction. The representative explaining the importance of being polite under interrogation was interrupted by a member of the community.

            "But, you know that the police behave differently in the inner city than uptown. They hear the way we talk and the way we dress and they don't treat us as good as they would if our address was in uptown Kingston. So, why should we be polite to them when they are rude and aggressive with us?"
