Letter to the Editor - A Bygone Society

As a product of the generation after "The Greatest Generation, " my childhood during WWII brought back fond memories of planting victory gardens, being involved in paper and scrap drives, attending excellent public schools (Eau Claire) that allowed students each week to attend a church of their choice, and attend annual Christmas plays; a youth center where the roller skate rink was used every Friday evening, (city auditorium) and a drive-in theater later became in vogue.
It was a different era that held film greats such as Grant, Cooper, Tracy, Gable, Robbinson, and superb vocalists, such as Dinah Shore, Doris Day, Jo Stafford, Buddy Clark, and Nat King Cole...Big bands, and dancing stars such as Fred Astaire, Powell, Kelly, and Miller...and baseball luminaries' such as Thomson, Greenburg, Feller, Williams, Sain, and Roberts. And modern parlance, are there any comparisons to any of the above?
