Money, Money, Money - Our Productive Economy

I spent 5 hours yesterday building a lesson around a sound production economy. It was really quite enjoyable. In the world that I built men were free to do what they pleased, and to my surprise they were all pleased to provide first for their basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing. I built this economy using the fast forward button so that I could allow for technological advancement and production surplus to fuel a modern economy of plenty, and the resulting economy of leisure and entertainment and novelty which is the inevitable result of abundance. As I" noodled" about the issues using all the power of my non-Harvard educated brain, I could not find a logical place for non-productive, make-work jobs in the area of government. Do not get me wrong, there was a place for Andy Taylor and Barney Fife and there was a place for the skilled teacher and the fireman and for the sewer repair guys, and gals, no offense (since the gals are so committed to being equal with the boys that they want to play with the poo too). There was a place in my dream world for Bob Hope and Babe Ruth and pet rocks and Carnival cruises and golf, tennis, and fishing for Chad and his friends and
