Local Housing Market Update

Historically low interest rates have kept the Eau Claire area's housing market stable since the expiration of the federal government's first time home buyer tax credit last spring. "Prices appear to have stabilized somewhat from this year to last year" says Dave Fitzgerald, president of the Northwest Wisconsin Realtors Association. Though summer is usually slow, "(house) sales are up 16% from this time last year in Eau Claire county". The rate is still lower than during the housing boom three to four years ago.

Dave also noted that, "the number of foreclosures are coming down a little bit", since it's peak locally last year.
