Protests in Greece and Iceland
March 11, Greek protesters flooded the streets in reaction to the governments $6.5 billion spending cuts and tax increase. Unions called for a strike to protest wage and benefit cuts while young anarchists smashed store windows and burned trashcans, forcing the police to resort to tear gas to stop them. Many businesses closed for fear of the protesters, flights were canceled, and public transport shut down.
